A woman in Jaipur allegedly died by suicide after years of alleged domestic abuse, leaving behind two children who, according to the family, had witnessed frequent fights between their parents.
The woman, Anu Meena, allegedly died by hanging on April 7. Her husband, Gautam Meena, works as an Executive Engineer in the Public Works Department.
According to the family, cited by NDTV, Anu had been facing mental and physical harassment since her marriage to Gautam in 2015. They alleged that he frequently assaulted her, often after consuming alcohol.
Children Spoke About Violence At Home
The couple’s 10-year-old son, Mahir, reportedly told relatives that he had often seen his father beating his mother.
He recalled an incident in which Gautam allegedly came home, played loud music on the television, broke the TV and assaulted Anu. Mahir also said his mother would ask him to prepare salt water whenever her blood pressure dropped.
Their eight-year-old daughter, Samayra, also reportedly spoke about regular arguments between her parents, including disputes during social gatherings and family trips.
Family Claims Anu Called Husband Before Death
According to the family, Anu made a video call to her husband shortly before allegedly taking the extreme step. Neighbours later reached the house and informed her relatives, the report said.
Family members said CPR was performed in an attempt to save her, but she could not survive.
Anu’s mother, Maya, said her daughter had often spoken about difficulties in her marriage. She also said she missed a phone call from Anu on the day of the incident and now regrets not answering it.
Videos Retrieved From Phone
Days after the incident, Mahir reportedly accessed his mother’s phone and found several videos, including clips of arguments between the couple.
One of the videos allegedly showed Gautam verbally abusing Anu and her family while they were travelling in a car.
Anu’s brother, Neeraj Meena, said the family had repeatedly asked her to return to her parental home, but she chose to stay because she was worried about her husband.
He alleged that Gautam would apologise after violent incidents, which led the family to believe the situation might improve.
Neeraj also claimed that even after the incident, Gautam showed no remorse and allegedly remarked that spending a few days in jail would not be a problem for him.
Police Investigation Underway
Police have begun an investigation into the case and recorded statements from family members. Officials said CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined as part of the probe.
