had been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detained Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.,

39 years old, in Studio City, California. Just a few days before, on June 29, he had lost a boxing match against Jake Paul in Anaheim.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was arrested based on serious legal issues. U.S. immigration officials stated that he overstayed a B2 tourist visa, made false statements in his green card application, but also had an active warrant in Mexico, and the circumstances surrounding this warrant were embossed in alleged organized crime, arms trafficking, and associations to the Sinaloa Cartel.

Soon after the arrest was made public by TMZ, Jake Paul posted an American flag emoji on his official X account. He gave no explanation but followed it up with a post that read, “Canelo is next,” referring to superstar Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Many fans and reporters believe Jake Paul’s post was meant to mock Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s arrest, especially since he had just beaten him in the ring days before.

Chavez Jr. had applied for U.S. permanent residency in 2024, but U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services flagged him as an “egregious public safety threat.”Officials also say Chavez Jr.’s wife, Frida Munoz, has connections to criminal organizations. Now, the U.S. is moving forward with deportation. With Jake Paul’s post gaining attention, some wonder if Canelo Alvarez could truly be his next target.
