Jamaat ally wants India’s apology for ‘sheltering’ those involved in ‘killings’

DHAKA: Newly appointed Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi should apologise for India “sheltering” individuals involved in “mass killings and political violence”, a key ally of Bangladesh’s largest Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded, reports Ahsan Tasmin. “India gave direct and indirect support to Awami League govt for 16 years- ...for the abuses committed during its rule,” opposition chief whip and NCP convener Nahid Islam claimed in parliament on Sunday, in a reference to IndiaBangladesh ties during the Sheikh Hasina govt and her living in India after an uprising that led to her ouster as PM in 2024. “The new Indian high commissioner should have begun (his assignment in Dhaka started on June 25) by offering an apology. India owes Bangladesh an apology for these,” he said.
