The upcoming Bengali-language series 'Jazz City' is preparing for its digital premiere later this month. The historical thriller blends music, politics, and espionage against a turbulent period in South Asian history and the series is directed by Soumik Sen. It unfolds in the politically charged setting of 1970s Calcutta.

When and where to watch the series on OTT

Jazz City will premiere on the streaming platform SonyLIV on March 19, 2026. The series consists of 10 episodes and is expected to release as a complete season on the platform. Earlier, Jazz City was scheduled to premiere in February 2026. However, the release was later postponed to March.

Story set during Bangladesh Liberation War

The narrative of Jazz City is set during the period of the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. At the centre of the story is a smoky jazz club in Calcutta’s famous Park Street area.

During that time, the club becomes a meeting point for artists, revolutionaries, and spies. The story explores how music and politics intersect during a time of turmoil. While the jazz club appears to be a space for entertainment it quietly shifts to an area for covert activities and political intrigue.

Characters caught in espionage and betrayal

The series follows Jimmy Roy who is played by Arifin Shuvoo, and Sheela, portrayed by Sauraseni Maitra. Jimmy initially lives a life that is away from the political issues around him. However, circumstances soon pull him into a dangerous world.Alongside the lead actors, the show features an ensemble cast including Shantanu Ghatak, Aniruddha Gupta, Sayandeep Sen, and Shreya Bhattacharya and many others. The series promises an intense thriller narrative along with strong performances.
