Micah Parsons was traded by the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers on August 28, 2025, just before the start of the NFL season. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones later shared that he first tried to make a deal with the New York Jets.

Jones said he wanted star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and some draft picks. But the Jets did not agree. So instead, Dallas made the big trade with Green Bay.

On September 13, 2025, in an interview with ESPN’s Gary Myers, Jerry Jones explained that he had personally called the New York Jets. He admitted that he asked for Quinnen Williams plus draft picks in return for Micah Parsons.Jerry Jones said the Cowboys needed a “dominant inside defensive player” to fix their run defence. That was the main reason behind the trade talks.

According to him, the Jets did not have the resources to match his request. “The Jets frankly didn’t have the resources to entertain conversation. It was a very good brief visit,” Jones said.

Quinnen Williams, a Pro Bowl defensive tackle, remains with the Jets. He has been one of the most important defensive players in the league, which is why New York was not willing to give him up.


Dallas Cowboys finalized Micah Parsons deal with Packers

After talks with the Jets ended quickly, the Dallas Cowboys made their final move with the Green Bay Packers.

On August 28, 2025, Dallas agreed to trade Micah Parsons to Green Bay. He admitted that for the past four years, Dallas struggled against the run. Bringing in Kenny Clark was part of the fix.In their first game without Micah Parsons, played on September 7, 2025, against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys gave up 302 total yards. The defence had only one sack on quarterback Jalen Hurts and forced three punts. Dallas lost the game 24-20.The Cowboys now move to Week 2, where they face the New York Giants. Jerry Jones hopes the changes will help the team get back on track after starting the season with a tough loss.
