Koraput: Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati has urged the health and family welfare minister to establish a city hospital in the unused sub-divisional hospital (SDH) building, Jeypore, for the benefit of local residents. In a letter to the minister, Bahinipati highlighted the difficulties faced by people following the upgradation of the SDH into a district headquarters hospital (DHH) in 2019 and its subsequent relocation to Phulobado, around 3km from the town. He said the shift has created significant challenges for city residents, particularly during medical emergencies, as they now have to travel a considerable distance to access healthcare services. The relocation of the hospital has caused inconvenience to residents, especially in emergency situations where immediate medical attention is crucial, Bahinipati said.He said the old SDH building, which was converted into a Covid hospital during the pandemic and later renovated, is currently lying unused. The vacant infrastructure should be utilised effectively by converting it into a city hospital to cater to the healthcare needs of the urban population, he added.Bahinipati stressed that repurposing the facility would provide timely medical services to residents and reduce the burden on the DHH, while ensuring better accessibility within the town.
