Jhanak fame Anupam Bhattacharya on men’s mental health; says ‘It remains a highly underrated topic

Actor Anupam Bhattacharya, known for his roles in Jhanak Season 2, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, and a cameo in War 2, is shedding light on an issue often overlooked—men’s mental health.

In a recent conversation, the actor shared his views on how emotional struggles among men are largely brushed aside or buried.“Men are victims of their own latent nature, they are mostly closed about problems and stresses... which acts as a hindrance for them to open up to even the near and dear ones,” he says. “It's easy to preach that you should talk about your problems, but for men, they would feel vulnerable if they did—and I don't think any amount of awareness drive can change much.”Opening up about his personal journey, Anupam adds, “I am no different and have faced situations where I found myself isolated or going into a shell... being fully aware that it might lead to depression and other mental illnesses.”The actor believes that financial and emotional issues are at the core of most mental health challenges faced by men. “Financial independence is very important,” he notes. “While you are doing well, you must invest and manage contingencies for any future uncertainties.”

When it comes to stress relief, Anupam swears by physical activity and group sports. “Workout or playing any kind of group sport acts as a complete stress detox. I keep myself involved in cricket with my other actor friends. The time spent with your sports buddies, the banter, the game involvement—it completely distresses you. Of course, there are other ways too, but this is my mantra.”Anupam’s candid take adds an important voice to the ongoing conversation about mental health, especially in a space where male vulnerability is rarely addressed.
