Ranchi: The state govt has proposed setting up several new schools, colleges and universities in the 2026-27 financial year in its annual budget tabled by finance minister Radha Krishana Kishore in the assembly on Tuesday.In the budget document, the minister has allocated over Rs 18,000 crore for the education sector, of which Rs 16,251.43 crore is set aside for primary and secondary education and Rs 2,564.45 crore for higher and technical education.The budget further proposes five new girls’ residential schools — two in Dhanbad and one each in Palamu, Latehar and Garhwa. In addition, 100 new CM Schools of Excellence will be established.
An ‘Adarsh Vidyalaya’ exclusively for the dependents of martyrs in the state is also planned.As part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, state-centric syllabi and textbooks for Classes I and II have been prepared and will be distributed in 2026–27. Around 40,000 teachers have been trained at the JCERT level under the NEP framework.Construction of three new residential schools on the lines of the Netarhat School is also underway in Dumka, Chaibasa and Bokaro.
To promote higher education, the govt has proposed establishing Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Chatra district. Moreover, new colleges will be set up in remote areas of the state, which will focus on job-oriented courses. In the first phase, 12 new colleges will be set up across seven districts.The budget also proposes developing the Jharkhand Institute of Technology (JhIT) on the lines of IITs and NITs under the J-PRAGATI (Jharkhand Polytechnic Revamping for Advanced Graduate and Innovation-led Technical Institution) scheme.
