Former German head coach Joachim Löw has refuted all rumours of his appointment as Ghana’s head coach and a massive return to the FIFA World Cup stage, after word arose on the same earlier in the day.
Löw has been away from coaching for five years and was rumoured to be returning to the touchline for the FIFA World Cup, but that scenario now seems unlikely.
Löw has refuted reports linking him to the Ghana national team’s head coach role for the FIFA World Cup.
“No one from Ghana has officially spoken to me," Low told Sky Sports.
A Ghanaian football website had reported that the national association was in talks with Löw, which were progressing well, according to reports, with the German FIFA World Cup-winning coach showing ‘genuine interest’ in the role.
The move followed Ghana’s parting ways with manager Otto Addo after a 2-1 loss to Germany.
Löw, who guided Germany to the 2014 FIFA World Cup title in Brazil, has been out of coaching since stepping down as DFB head coach five years ago.
“I don’t want to retire if there is another interesting offer where I can say, ‘That is a good prospect’. Of course, I will always be linked with national teams because I was a national coach for so long," Low had recently told Sky Sports.
Ghana will face England, Croatia and Panama in the FIFA World Cup group stage, taking place in the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
