Dustin Poirier officially retired after his last fight at UFC 318 in March 2025, when he faced Max Holloway in Miami, Florida. The fight was billed as his farewell bout and ended in defeat for “The Diamond.” Despite the loss, Poirier walked away with 30 professional wins, including big victories over Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and Michael Chandler.

Dustin Poirier breaks down Aaron Pico’s UFC 319 loss
Retirement has not taken Dustin Poirier away from the sport completely. Just weeks after his farewell fight, he joined the ESPN broadcast team as an analyst. At UFC 319 in Las Vegas, Poirier was on the post-fight desk to give his take on Aaron Pico’s tough UFC debut against Lerone Murphy.
Pico, a former Bellator fighter, rushed forward with heavy punches but was knocked out by a spinning elbow from Murphy.
Poirier explained on the broadcast, “He’s all in when he fights when he’s coming in to throw these combinations, he’s sharp, but he’s explosive. He doesn’t do any feel out punches, no jabs, no setups. Everything is kill.”He added that Pico’s fast style can work against him at the highest level, saying, “But you have to set it up against this caliber of fighter. You can’t just rush in there, jump in there, throwing 100% every punch. You have to make them guess. You have to set traps. You have to make them, make mistakes, then put them away…”While Jolie’s “silly goose” post showed a lighter side of Poirier at home, his sharp analysis proved he still has a strong voice in the fight game. Whether in the gym or on TV, the Louisiana fighter continues to leave his mark on MMA.
