Jon Jones is officially cleared in his leaving the scene of an accident case. On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, court documents obtained in Albuquerque, New Mexico, showed that prosecutors dismissed all charges against the UFC star after accepting his alibi defence.
Jones had been facing one count of leaving the scene of an accident and another count of using a telephone to terrify or harass. But officials reviewed his cell phone records and said they proved he was not at the crash site on February 21.
Jon Jones Cleared after prosecutors accept Alibi in New Mexico
According to court papers filed in Bernalillo County, the case was closed after New Mexico prosecutors found “reason to believe [Jones’] alibi defence is credible.” Police originally accused Jones of fleeing the scene of a traffic accident in Albuquerque earlier this year. Officers at the scene said they found a woman in the passenger seat of a vehicle involved in the crash who appeared highly intoxicated and was missing clothing from the waist down.
The woman told police that Jon Jones had been driving and had left the scene on foot. This statement led to charges being filed against the UFC fighter. But once his phone records were reviewed, they confirmed he was not at or near the accident when it happened.
Prosecutors then dropped both charges.

He added that the district attorney’s office took time to review everything carefully, which confirmed Jones’ innocence.Christopher A. Dodd also raised concerns about how police handled the case. He said his team is continuing to look into why officers ignored evidence that would have cleared Jones earlier. “It is deeply troubling that such critical evidence was disregarded, forcing Jon to endure this ordeal unnecessarily,” he stated. With the case now officially dismissed, Jon Jones will face no legal consequences from the February 21 incident in Albuquerque.
