This win could be possible due to the star players of Canada, including NHL superstars Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby. After a long hiatus, the nine-time Olympic champions delivered their first statement at the Milano Cortina 2026 Games.Meanwhile, goaltender Jordan Binnington is another player who has played a significant role in Team Canada's victory. He recorded a shutout in his Olympic debut, helping Canada defeat Czechia by 5-0. It is worth noting that the last time Czechia met Canada was at an Olympic tournament, specifically in the 2018 bronze medal game, where the Canadians secured the medal.

Team Canada’s goaltender Jordan Binnington recorded a 26-save shutout in his Olympic debut against Czechia on Thursday.
His effort has helped the club to attain a 5-0 victory in their opening game against Team Czechia at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.The St. Louis Blues netminder was making his first appearance in the Olympics after he helped Canada to a championship at the 4 Nations Face-Off last season. According to the NHL, Binnington has now won three straight games for Team Canada and is 4-1-0 for Canada in best-on-best tournaments.
Earlier, Binnington made 23 saves in helping Canada to a 4-3 overtime win against Sweden at Bell Centre in the opening game of the tournament, which earned Canada two points, according to the NHL.Reaffirming his confidence, Jon Cooper stated of the goaltender after Canada’s win, “I can’t predict how things are going to go, but I have extreme confidence in that kid, and I have for the past year.” Expressing his happiness, the head coach reiterated, "He’s a proven winner to me.
I have all the faith in the world in him, and I know our team does. You still have to go out there and perform, and he did just that."The player exhibited exceptional skill and talent, particularly during the first period, when he faced 11 shots and made a couple of key saves on Tomas Hertl (Vegas Golden Knights) and another on David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins) when the game was tight. Interestingly, this match was Binnington’s first international game after scoring 31 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over the United States in the championship of the 4 Nations Face-Off.
