Jordan Henderson Injured After Celebrating Too Hard? England's World Cup Win Marred By Disaster

England's dramatic World Cup win over Mexico was overshadowed after Jordan Henderson suffered a serious wrist injury during post-match celebrations and was taken to hospital.

England’s unforgettable World Cup victory over Mexico ended on a worrying note.

Midfielder Jordan Henderson suffered what manager Thomas Tuchel described as a “really bad" wrist injury during the post-match celebrations.

The Three Lions had just sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory in Mexico City to book their place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway in Miami.

But the celebrations were cut short when Henderson was injured while joining England’s travelling supporters behind the goal.

As has become tradition during England’s World Cup run, the players gathered with the fans to sing Oasis’ Wonderwall. Amid the jubilant scenes, Henderson appeared to fall awkwardly from the advertising hoardings, landing heavily on his wrist.

The 36-year-old was later seen leaving the pitch on a stretcher before being taken to hospital.

Tuchel confirmed the severity of the injury after the match.

“Jordan [Henderson] just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad," Tuchel told BBC One.

“It’s a quite serious injury and it doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital."

Although Henderson has played only six minutes at this tournament –coming off the bench during England’s final Group L match against Panama — his experience and leadership have remained invaluable inside the squad. The veteran also made history earlier in the tournament by becoming the first England men’s player to feature at four FIFA World Cups.

Ironically, despite remaining an unused substitute against Mexico, Henderson still found himself in the referee’s notebook after receiving a yellow card from the bench during the frantic closing stages.

Jude Bellingham also provided an update, while urging caution until more details are known.

“He’s in a bit of bother, but our medical team have got everything under control, probably. Best not to give too much detail when I don’t know too much what is going on."

“Everyone was there to support him, and even that was a beautiful thing to see."

England’s injury concerns continue to mount ahead of their quarter-final. Reece James has already been ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury in the opening match, while defender Jarell Quansah will miss the clash with Norway after receiving a straight red card against Mexico.
