There is big news for MotoGP fans this Thursday in Brno, Czech Republic. Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP world champion, stirred interest when talk began about him leaving Aprilia after this season.
He hinted he might use an exit clause in his contract. That created suspense, would he stay or go? Fans wondered if he’d look for a new team like Honda. Now, at a special press conference today, Jorge Martin has made it clear he will stay. He’s honored his contract, and Aprilia is relieved.
What did Jorge Martin confirm about staying at Aprilia in 2026
At a press event in Brno on July 17, 2025, Jorge Martin stood beside Aprilia team members and announced: “I’m happy to say that I will continue with Aprilia for 2026.” Martin joined Aprilia after winning the 2024 title on a Ducati and signed a two‑year deal. He had the right to leave early thanks to a performance‑based clause. His manager, Albert Valera, had earlier confirmed Jorge Martin was “free of contract for 2026” and mentioned Honda as a possible choice. Aprilia, however, felt the clause didn’t apply since Jorge Martin missed many races due to injuries.
Aprilia officials like Paolo Bonora and CEO Massimo Rivola expressed relief and happiness after Jorge Martín tested well at Misano and healed from serious injuries, he broke 11 ribs and had a collapsed lung in Qatar in April.
Boss Carmelo Ezpeleta of Dorna confirmed that without a mutual agreement, Jorge Martin could not register with another team. In his announcement, Jorge Martin said he respected Aprilia’s position and chose to stay, preferring stability after a tough year.
