Junior artist Sanjib Singh, who was reportedly returning home after completing a shoot for the TV show Dr Aarambhi, allegedly suffered a heart attack and passed away in the early hours of Sunday.
According to a report by News9, The 51-year-old's sudden demise has once again highlighted concerns about the health and well-being of people working in the film and television industry.
Alleged reason behind sudden demise
The report further mentioned that Sanjib Singh was shooting for daily soap Dr Aarambhi at SJ Studio in Mumbai's Saki Naka. FWICE General Secretary Ashok Dubey said that Sanjib Singh began shooting at 2 pm and finished around 3 am after the day's work was over.Ashok Dubey shared that Sanjib had complained of feeling uneasy and even took small breaks in between to rest. After completing his shoot, the actor headed for home on a motorcycle. While on the way home, the rider stopped halted at a petrol pump to refuel. During the stop, Singh reportedly collapsed and is suspected to have suffered a heart attack.The report in News9 further stated that Sanjib Singh is survived by his sister and brother, who are based in Kolkata.
Ashok Dubey said that his sister is divorced, while his brother is unwell. After the incident, his post-mortem was carried out at Cooper Hospital. FWICE has stepped in to help the family financially and is arranging for his body to be flown to Kolkata for the final rites.The FWICE General Secretary Ashok Dubey has reached out the representatives of the show's producer, Malhar Creations. They have urged the producers for financial assistance for Singh's family.
He said that production houses should take responsibility for the safety and well-being of workers, including while they are travelling for work. Junior artists' supplier Ravindra Suri also assured that all possible help would be provided to the family.Singh's sudden death has once again brought attention to the long and hectic work schedules often faced by television and film workers. Dubey said that for the past six weeks, FWICE, along with Sony and the NGO Doctor For You, has been conducting health check-up camps on shooting sets.
As part of the initiative, ambulances are stationed at filming locations to check workers' blood pressure, provide basic medicines and offer medical advice.
The federation also plans to add more regular health tests in the future.Ashok Dubey also informed that Singh was elected to the junior artists' committee after he won the union elections around a month ago. As reported by News9, the official cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is released. Meanwhile, FWICE is likely to write to the production house, requesting compensation for Sanjib Singh's family.
