German football executive Jurgen Klopp is returning to professional football, as the 59-year-old is all set to coach his country after the team made a shocking Round of 32 exit from the ongoing FIFA World Cup, according to a report from Fabrizio Romano.

Klopp is all set to replace Julian Nagelsmann, marking his return to the touchline for the first time since leaving Liverpool in 2024.

As per Romano, Klopp is expected to sign a long-term contract with four-time FIFA World Cup winners Germany and step down from his role with Red Bull GmbH. The vacancy arose after Nagelsmann resigned after Germany’s shock Round of 32 elimination against Paraguay, paving the way for Klopp to take charge of the national team, a role long regarded as his dream job.

In a statement released earlier this week, the German Football Association confirmed its intention to open talks with Klopp, with the former Liverpool boss signalling his willingness to take the job, according to reports.

Klopp is in the United States as part of German broadcaster MagentaTV’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup.

“Jürgen Klopp as new Germany head coach, here we go! Klopp has accepted to take over," Romano tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

Klopp told the German FA on Friday that he was ‘willing’ to take over as Germany’s coach after Nagelsmann resigned.

Nagelsmann, who had a contract until 2028, stepped down just four days after Germany’s disappointing last-32 FIFA World Cup exit to Paraguay.
