American tennis ace Coco Gauff revealed that she has been trying a new service motion in an attempt to reduce her troubles with double-faults, following her win over Ajla Tomljanovic in her opening game at the US Open on Wenesday.

Gauff, who shook up her coaching unit, seemed to rotate and toss the ball, both differently, from how he had in the past in her triumph over the Australian.

“It’s a new motion," the 21-year-old American revealed.

“At times I do it well, and at times not so well. When I do it well — or when I do it — it’s always a good result. It’s just reminding myself how to do it," she said.

“But obviously there are so many things going in my head at those tough moments, and I’m not just thinking about the serve. I’m thinking about how to play out the point, where to serve, what she’s going to do," she explained.

“I don’t want to give out everything that we’re working on. I’m transparent, but I’ll keep that for myself," the American said.

Gauff secured a 6-4, 6-7 (2/7), 7-5 victory over Australian Tomljanovic in a match that lasted just under 3 hours.

“It was a tough match. Ajla was tough, she was getting so many balls back," Gauff said after her win.

“It wasn’t my best performance, but I’m happy to advance to the next round," she added.

Gauff made changes to her coaching team, replacing former coach Matt Daly with biomechanics specialist Gavin MacMillan just before the event at Flushing Meadows.

“Honestly, it’s been really tough and mentally exhausting," Gauff commented.

“But I’m trying. It wasn’t the best today, but it was an improvement on last week in Cincinnati. I’m just trying to improve with each match."

“I knew when I did this, I might not serve the best," Gauff admitted.

“I just felt like I didn’t want to waste any more time."

“If I could have worked with Gavin earlier, I would have, but he was on another player’s team. Then he became available unexpectedly.

“I knew I had to make a quick decision because I knew he would be highly sought after. Hopefully, by this time next year, I’ll be serving much better."

Gauff, who won the French Open earlier this year, is set to face Croatian Donna Vekic in her next match at the hard-court Grand Slam event.
