Justice for Tamanna our priority, says CM

Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday said “justice for Tamanna Khatun is our priority” and praised the swift police action that led to the arrest of 12 persons in the case in just three days. The class 4 student was killed in a crude bomb blast at Nadia’s Kaliganj during a Trinamool victory procession after its bypoll win on June 23 last year. Of the 24 accused named in the FIR, 11 were arrested earlier. One accused is still absconding.“This swift action sends a clear message. Unlike the times of the previous regime, where culprits were distinguished by their political affiliation and police action was heavily influenced by the political identity of the victims, our govt operates differently.

We have taken a strong, unyielding resolve to establish the ‘rule of law’ and completely abolish the dark era where the ‘law of the ruler’ prevailed,” Adhikari posted on X.A crime is a crime and action will be taken impartially, promptly and without any fear or favour, irrespective of the victim’s or accused person’s identity, the CM wrote. The 12 arrests came days after Tamanna’s mother met the CM in the assembly on Tuesday, exactly a year after the nine-year-old died at her village at Molandi in Kaliganj.

Adhikari repeatedly condemned the attack by Trinamool goons on the child, which led to her death, and said that the murderers would be brought to book. The CM posted on Saturday: “I express satisfaction and appreciate the Krishnanagar district police personnel for their prompt and lawful action in this case. Following my meeting with Tamanna’s grieving mother, the police have acted swiftly to ensure the culprits face the full force of law.

I am pleased to inform the people of Bengal that almost all of the FIR-named accused have now been arrested.”Adhikari added that the state police relentlessly pursued leads across the state and even reached places such as Gurgaon and Nagpur, leading to the arrests of the 12 accused. After meeting the CM, Tamanna’s mother also met DGP S N Gupta and other senior CID officials to narrate the incident.
