Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty is acting Calcutta HC CJ

Kolkata: Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty was appointed Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta HC on Friday with the retirement of Chief Justice Sujoy Paul on Saturday.Justice Chakraborty currently serves as executive chairman of the State Legal Services Authority.

He was also a member of the High Court’s Computer Committee during the tenure of former CJ T S Sivagnanam, when the court accelerated the adoption of technology-driven reforms.Before his elevation to the bench, Justice Chakraborty practised at Calcutta HC for 22 years, primarily handling civil and constitutional matters. He was appointed an additional judge of the HC on Oct 30, 2013, and became a permanent judge on March 14, 2016.Born on Nov 27, 1966, into a family of lawyers, Justice Chakraborty enrolled as an advocate on Jan 29, 1991.
