Panaji: The air conditioning units in Kala Academy’s western music classrooms are functional again after the Kala Rakhonn Mandd, a platform advocating for artistes’ rights, brought the issue to the authorities’ attention.
The problem had been affecting students and teachers since the building was renovated.In 2021, the Kala Academy moved its cultural courses out of the premises owing to repair and renovation works taken up at the building. During this period, classes were held at the Adil Shah palace in the city. They had only recently moved back to the building after its renovation.“We will continue to advocate for the best interests of music educators and students, ensuring they have a conducive learning environment without any inconvenience,” said secretary of the Kala Rakhonn Mandd, Cecille Rodrigues.The department of western music, which was formerly known as Academia de Musica, is an educational institution established during the Portuguese regime by then founder director, maestro Antonio de Figueiredo. The academia is regarded as the first institution in India to impart a wide range of courses in violin, piano, voice, etc.
