Panaji: A 12m-long Kadamba electric bus crashed into a municipal shed and an illegally-parked tempo on Monday. The accident occured at the Panaji bus stand alighting bay. The bus was operating on the Smart City yellow route (Panaji-Miramar-Dona Paula).According to the preliminary investigation by Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC), the accident was caused by driver error, resulting in damage to the vehicle estimated at around Rs 1 lakh. The bus was parked at the alighting bay when the driver reportedly removed the handbrake and pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to move forward uncontrollably into the shed.Four students were aboard the bus at the time and felt the impact of the crash.
All four were taken to GMC for medical examination. Among them, a female student injured her knee and required treatment at the hospital.“The accident resulted in damage to the bus’s front portion and glass panels, as well as to the municipal shed and the tempo parked illegally nearby. The bus has since been sent to the Porvorim workshop for repairs,” said a KTC official said.KTC confirmed that disciplinary action will be taken against the driver following the investigation.
