Leader of Opposition V. D. Satheesan praised the Kannur Corporation for successfully implementing key development projects despite financial constraints imposed by the State government. He was speaking at the inauguration of the Corporation’s housing scheme on Monday (July 21), which aims to provide land to 83 landless families. The ₹4.10-crore project is designed to ensure housing security by offering financial assistance for land purchase.
“This is an exemplary move. While the State government is slashing funds and increasing the responsibilities on local bodies, the Kannur Corporation is moving ahead with people-centric projects,” Mr. Satheesan said.
As part of the scheme, beneficiaries who purchased land within the Corporation limits received ₹5 lakh, while those who acquired land outside were given ₹2.70 lakh. Of the 83 beneficiaries, 81 secured land within the Corporation limits, while two secured plots in the Sreekandapuram municipality.
