Koodiyattam exponent Kapila Venu has resigned from the senate membership of the University of Calicut.
She had been nominated to the body by former Governor and Chancellor of State universities Arif Mohammed Khan as a representative of the arts and culture category. Sources said on Sunday that Ms. Venu quit the post as she had not been able to regularly attend the senate meetings. It is learnt that the Chancellor will soon recommend another person to fill the vacancy.
Meanwhile, I.C. Balakrishnan, Congress MLA from Sulthan Bathery, has submitted a request to the Registrar to revoke the termination of his membership. Mr. Balakrishnan’s membership was cancelled after he skipped seven consecutive senate meetings. As per the university law, any member will be removed if they miss three consecutive meetings. Mr. Balakrishnan’s request is expected to be considered at the next senate meeting.
