Leader of Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and YSRCP senior leader Botcha Satyanarayana called for greater political empowerment of the Kapu community, saying it was not receiving proper representation in the assembly, Parliament and local bodies in accordance to the population.

He was speaking at the Turpu Kapu Atma Gowrava Sammelana Sabha held in Srikakulam on Sunday, which was attended by leaders of the community and public representatives irrespective of party affiliation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Botcha alleged that political parties have been ignoring the importance of the community in the development of the State. TDP MLC Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao, MARKFED Director Anepu Ramakrishna Naidu (TDP) urged allocation of more seats for the Kapu community which is being sidelined in the North Andhra region including Srikakulam district. They said that seats were being allocated to other communities in Etcherla, Rajam, Palakonda and other places although the Kapu’ population was higher than other communities there. Srikakulam Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Peerukatla Vithal, Kapu Welfare Association senior leaders Surangi Mohana Rao, Sasanapu Joginaidu and others attended.
