Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday (July 11, 2026) dedicated 32 mobile Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs) and 75 new police vehicles to the State.

Home, Information Technology, Biotechnology and e-Governance Minister Priyank Kharge said forensic science plays a vital role in ensuring speedy and scientific investigation of criminal cases, and the State government is committed to modernising forensic infrastructure across Karnataka.

The newly commissioned mobile forensic laboratories, operating under the Karnataka Police Department, are designed to reach crime scenes quickly and enable on-site collection and preservation of scientific evidence. The minister said the addition of the new vehicles will significantly improve the ability of forensic teams to respond promptly to crime scenes and enhance the quality of investigations.

Highlighting the growing importance of forensic evidence in the criminal justice system, Mr. Kharge said scientific analysis has become crucial in securing convictions of offenders while also ensuring justice for innocent individuals.

He said the government is expanding forensic services across the State by strengthening regional forensic laboratories in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Belagavi and Kalaburagi. The initiative includes the deployment of advanced equipment, cutting-edge technology and skilled personnel to improve the efficiency and accuracy of criminal investigations.

The minister added that the government is focusing on continuous training for forensic staff, upgrading technical capabilities, introducing modern analytical tools and promoting research in forensic science. He also stressed the importance of closer coordination between the police, forensic experts and the judiciary to make investigations more effective.

Kharge said the government will continue to invest in new infrastructure, technological facilities and human resource development to expand forensic services across all regions of the state. He added that strengthening forensic science is essential to enhancing public safety and ensuring timely justice, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing Karnataka’s forensic services into a national model.
