Karnataka Power Tussle, Congress Crisis Live Updates: Amid an ongoing power tussle between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, the Congress high command on Friday intervened, asking both the leaders to meet in order to resolve their differences. Following the directive, Siddaramaiah invited Shivakumar for a breakfast meeting on Saturday, reiterating that both leaders would follow the high command’s decisions. He added that he would travel to Delhi if summoned.
Infighting has resurfaced as supporters of both camps push for their leaders to occupy the chief minister’s post—a dispute that began after the Congress’s 2023 Assembly election victory. Although Siddaramaiah became chief minister, reports suggested an informal power-sharing deal, and Shivakumar’s loyalists are now more vocal as Siddaramaiah completes 2.5 years in office. While Shivakumar is seen as the frontrunner if a change occurs, other leaders, including Home Minister G Parameshwara, have also shown interest.
A Cabinet reshuffle is expected, leaving the high command to decide whether to retain Siddaramaiah for the 2028 polls or elevate Shivakumar. Senior leader Veerappa Moily criticised the party’s central leadership for failing to control the situation, warning that continued discord could harm the party in Karnataka.
