The High Court of Karnataka on Friday directed a 22-year-old engineering student, who is accused of repeatedly raping a 20-year-old girl on the false promise of marriage, to pay ₹75,000 every month to the girl and her 10-month-old child, born out of their relationship, as a condition for staying the trial of the criminal proceeding against him till adjudication of his petition.

Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the interim order on the petition filed by Srikrishna J. Rao of Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district, who had challenged the legality of the case registered against him under Sections 64(2)(m) and 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
