Karnataka Man Befriends Minor On Instagram, Rapes Her And Record The Act; 7 Arrested

Mengaluru police arrested seven persons in connection with rape of a minor in Karnataka. The accused recorded the act abd circulated the video.

Mangaluru police has arrested seven individuals in connection with the alleged rape of a junior college student near Kinnikambla in Gurupura Kaikamba, police said on Tuesday. The accused also recorded video of the act and circulated it.

As per the police, the victim had become acquainted with one of the accused, Karthik, through Instagram approximately two months ago, leading to an online relationship.

On June 29, Karthik allegedly lured the minor girl, took her on his scooter to a hotel in Valachil for lunch, and later to the woods near Adyar Falls.

As per the reports, he sexually assaulted her and one of his friends also raped the victim. The main accused recorded the incident and circulated it among his friends.

The accused have been identified as Karthik, Rakesh Saldana, Jeevan, Sandeep, Rakshith, Shravan, and Suresh. Police said the other five were arrested for abetting and circulating the video.

A case has been registered under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody, police added.

POCSO Against Kerala Woman

In Kerala’s Alappuzha, a 30-year-old woman has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly eloping with a 17-year-old boy.

As per the police, the woman, a mother of two, fled with the minor—her distant relative—about a week ago and “sexually exploited" him.

Both were traced to Kollur in Karnataka five days later, following separate missing complaints filed by their families.

Police said the duo had avoided using mobile phones during the period.

They were taken into custody in Kollur, where the woman had rented a house in “an attempt to settle down", police told PTI.
