Following her death, hundreds of Village Administrative Officers (VAOs) launched a silent protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tumakuru.
The death of Village Administrative Officer (VAO) Bhuvana (27) in a road accident while on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) duty has triggered widespread protests by Village Administrative Officers across Tumakuru district in Karnataka.
Bhuvana sustained severe head injuries after a lorry allegedly collided with her scooter near Kunigal Circle while she was travelling to Gulur village for SIR work. She was admitted to a private hospital but succumbed to her injuries despite treatment.
Following her death, hundreds of Village Administrative Officers (VAOs) launched a silent protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tumakuru. They placed Bhuvana’s photograph at the site and paid floral tributes, while demanding action over the circumstances of the accident.
The protest continued overnight, with officials refusing to disperse despite requests from the district administration. The protesting VAOs also expressed anger over Deputy Commissioner Shubha Kalyan’s alleged absence from the protest site. Police were deployed as the sit-in continued.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara expressed condolences over Bhuvana’s death. In a post on X, he said he was deeply saddened to learn that the young officer lost her life while travelling to carry out SIR work.
He said Bhuvana had her whole life ahead of her, expressed solidarity with her bereaved family, prayed for the eternal peace of her soul, and wished the family strength to bear the irreparable loss.
