Karnataka police arrest 2 more suspects in Abdul Rahiman murder case

MANGALURU: The Bantwal police on Friday took into custody two more persons in connection with the murder of Abdul Rahiman, a driver. The accused were identified as Sumith Acharya, 27, of Tenkabellur village, and Raviraj, 23, of Badagabellur village in Bantwal.

With their arrest, the total number of people taken into custody in the case rose to five.Rahiman, 32, a driver and secretary of the local Juma Masjid, and his colleague Kalandar Shafi were brutally attacked by a group of miscreants in Irakodi, Kuriyala village, under the jurisdiction of the Bantwal Rural Police Station on Tuesday. While Rahiman succumbed to his injuries, Kalandar is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.In the wake of the incident, the Dakshina Kannada police intensified monitoring of social media platforms for provocative content. The police registered three cases related to the circulation of inflammatory posts on social media that could incite communal disharmony. Two cases were filed at the Venur Police Station and one at the Punjalkatte Police Station on Friday.Dakshina Kannada SP Arun K warned that any further attempts to disrupt communal harmony through social media would invite strict legal action. “We are treating such cases with utmost seriousness,” he stated.
