Karnataka tourist death accused remanded in police custody

Calangute: Akshata alias Rupashree C, the prime suspect in the death of Sandeep Salayam, a tourist from Malpe, Karnataka, in Calangute, was remanded in five days’ police custody by the JMFC, Mapusa, on Saturday.Akshata was arrested in Bengaluru on Friday by Karnataka police and handed over to the Calangute police team on transit remand. She was subsequently brought to the Calangute police station.Salayam was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Calangute on Tuesday evening. Police alleged that Akshata befriended him to extort money and is suspected to have administered drugs to him in the hotel room, leading to his death.Police further alleged that after Salayam’s death, Akshata fled with his gold chain and bracelet. She was initially traced to Mangaluru before fleeing to Bengaluru, where she was arrested.
