A man was murdered and his body was dumped nearly 30 km away in an alleged case of murder by his wife and her alleged lover in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, said officials.

The crime took place on June 24 in Kadashettihalli village of Tiptur taluk, where the victim, 50-year-old Shankaramurthy, was reportedly living alone in a farmhouse.

According to police, his wife, Sumangala and her alleged lover Nagaraju conspired to kill him, viewing him as a hurdle to their extramarital relationship.

Investigators say Sumangala threw chilli powder in her husband’s eyes, bludgeoned him with a wooden club, and then fatally pressed her foot on his neck.

After the murder, the duo placed the body in a gunny sack and transported it to a farm in Turuvekere taluk, where they dumped it into a well under the jurisdiction of Dandanishivara police station, reported NDTV.

The case initially came to light as a missing persons report at the Nonavinakere police station.

However, during a search, officers discovered chilli powder and signs of a struggle at the scene, which raised suspicions.

Following a detailed investigation, including mobile call record analysis, police detained and questioned Sumangala, who later confessed to the crime.

A case has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
