Karunanidhi’s eldest son MK Muthu dies at 77 in Chennai; actor once seen as rival to MGR

M. K. Muthu, the eldest son of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, passed away in Chennai at the age of 77. An actor himself, Muthu starred in Tamil films like 'Pillayo Pillai' and 'Anaiyavilaku'. Despite initial attempts to position him as a rival to M. G.

CHENNAI: MK Muthu, eldest son of former CM M Karunanidhi died in Chennai. He was 77. Muthu was an actor who had acted as a hero in Tamil movies suh as 'Pillayo Pillai', 'Anaiyavilaku' and so on. Though he was pitched as a competitor for former CM MG Ramachandran in movies, Muthu had not performed as expected.

On the contrary he developed difference of opinion with Karunanidhi and joined AIADMK. Later, in 2009 he patched up with Karunanidhi after falling ill.His mother Padmavathi died after Muthu was born following which Karunanidhi married Dhayalu Ammal. Muthu's son Arulnidhi is now a renowned actor in Tamil movies.
