CHENNAI (India CSR): Karur Vysya Bank (KVB), as part of its CSR initiative to strengthen science education, inaugurated a Mini Science Centre established by STEM Learning at Government Higher Secondary School, Thennilai, in Tamil Nadu, and organised a series of activities to promote scientific temper among students.

The programme was held on February 27 and saw participation from students of Classes 6 to 9, focusing on encouraging curiosity, creativity and hands-on understanding of science and mathematics through experiential learning.

KVB representative Ramshankar attended the event as the distinguished guest and interacted with students during the inaugural ceremony.

As part of the programme, students of Classes 8 and 9 took part in a science fair and science and maths model-making competition, presenting working and static models based on scientific concepts.

Students of Class 6 participated in science-themed drawing and colouring and essay competitions, showcasing ideas related to inventions, environmental awareness and futuristic concepts. A live science quiz was also organised for Class 7 students to help improve their understanding of science and technology in an interactive manner.

Prizes and certificates were distributed to winners and participants from Classes 6 to 9 in recognition of their enthusiasm, creativity and scientific spirit, organisers said.

The inaugural ceremony included a welcome address, lighting of the lamp, a special address by the KVB representative, an introduction to the Mini Science Centre, prize and certificate distribution, and a vote of thanks.

The Mini Science Centre, established by STEM Learning, is aimed at creating a vibrant scientific learning atmosphere in the school and giving students greater exposure to practical and activity-based education, they said.

The initiative is part of KVB’s broader CSR efforts to support quality learning at the grassroots and inspire students to engage with science in an innovative and meaningful way.

Government Higher Secondary School, Thennilai, located in Aravakurichi Taluka of Karur District, Tamil Nadu, is approximately 350-400 km from Chennai. The school is in the Karur district, which is reachable from Chennai in about 6-8 hours by road or train.
