FBI director Kash Patel has strongly denied allegations that he drank to excess and was at times unreachable during his tenure, following a new report that has triggered a fierce public response and legal threats.

Patel has vowed to sue The Atlantic over the article published on Friday, which detailed claims of heavy drinking, erratic behaviour, and instances in which members of his security detail allegedly struggled to wake him.

He dismissed the report as false and politically motivated, insisting it amounted to “fake news" and saying he would meet the publication in court.

“See you and your entire entourage of false reporting in court," Patel wrote on X on Saturday, calling the story a “legal layup" under the actual malice standard.

In another post, he said: “The only time I’ll ever actually be concerned about the hit piece lies you write about me will be when you stop."

He added that criticism would not deter his leadership of the bureau. “Keep talking, it means I’m doing exactly what I should be doing. And no amount of BS you write will ever deter this FBI from making America safe again and taking down the criminals you love."
