Filmmaker Kasthuri Raja recently shared a story about his son, Kollywood star Dhanush’s route into cinema. He shared that Dhanush never wanted to become an actor and revealed that he didn’t enter the industry by choice and wanted to leave during the early years of his career.

As per a report by IANS, while speaking at the event of ‘Love Oh Love’, which stars his grandson Pavish Narayan, Kasthuri Raja said, “Among the three directors in my family, it was only Selvaraghavan who came to cinema willingly. Dhanush did not like cinema. Until he completed five or six films, he did not like cinema. When I made 'Thulluvadho Ilamai', he would keep telling me, 'Dad, let me go. I will leave.' He would cry before the shot while shooting for Thulluvadho Illamai.

Why Selvaraghavan entered cinema

Kasthuri Raja also spoke about his elder son Selvaraghavan. He said Selvaraghavan was the most educated person in the family and had completed engineering. He also shared that he never wanted his children to enter the film industry and even kept them away from preview shows because he wanted them to focus on their studies.He said, “Selvaraghavan, on the other hand, is the most educated among the members of my family.

He is a medallist. He is a mechanical engineer. I was very particular that my children must not come to cinema. Therefore, I would not even take them to preview shows even. I was very strict.”Kasthuri Raja also talked about the time when Selvaraghavan was in his second year of college, he told him that he wanted to leave his studies and join cinema. The director explained that he convinced his son to finish his education first before following his dream.He said, “I told him that cinema had been there before me, it was there during my time now and that it would be there after my time but a college degree was not like that and that if he lost the opportunity to get a degree now, he may not get it again. I lied to him that if he got his degree, I would get him into cinema. Selvaraghavan agreed to complete his education and did so.”‘Love Oh Love’ is a romance drama which was released in theatres on July 10, 2026.
