Kavlem man hurt while rescuing mom from burning house

Ponda: Gauresh Saju Naik, 35, a resident of Galshire, Kavlem, in Ponda taluka, was injured while rescuing his bedridden mother from the fire that destroyed their house on Friday morning.Sources said that Manarathi, 69, and her younger son Amit, were at home when the incident occurred. Although no-one knew how the fire broke out, their neighbours informed Gauresh about the fire.When Gauresh reached home, flames had engulfed the house and Gauresh jumped inside the burning house to rescue his bedridden mother.Although he managed to bring out his mother, the duo suffered burn injuries. The younger son, who was outside the house, escaped unhurt. The injured mother and son are undergoing treatment at the GMC.After being informed, the central Ponda fire station staff rushed to the site and doused the fire. Ponda station fire officer Rahul Desai said there was no major loss since the house had only grocery, utensils and daily-use clothes.
