RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Friday took a swipe at the political developments in Bihar, claiming that the state has seen frequent changes in government over a short span.
Addressing the Bihar Assembly, Yadav said, “Bihar is truly a peculiar state where in five years a fifth government has been formed. Selected CM has ousted the elected CM. I would advice Samrat Choudhary to keep his ‘turban’ safe from Vijay Sinha."
Trust Vote Clears Leadership Transition
This comes after Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary won the trust vote in the 243-member Legislative Assembly, firmly establishing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the state. The vote marked the formal completion of the leadership transition following Nitish Kumar’s resignation from the Chief Minister’s post.
NDA Shows Strength In Assembly
The confidence motion was passed comfortably with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United), and other NDA allies, reflecting unity within the ruling coalition.
Tejashwi Yadav Continues Attack
Soon after the motion was moved, Yadav again criticised the developments. Addressing the House, he said, “A government needs stability for development work. But Bihar is a unique state, where this is the fifth government formed in five years… We would like to thank Samrat Choudhary for the transition from an ‘elected Chief Minister’ to a ‘selected Chief Minister’. We are delighted that he is a graduate of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s ‘pathshala’. What could be better for us than him becoming the Chief Minister?"
CM Responds To Criticism
Responding to the remarks, Samrat Choudhary said leadership is not inherited but earned through public support. He said, “The power is not anyone’s inheritance. The CM’s post is the blessing of 14 crores Biharis. I have the blessing of Nitish Kumar, PM Modi, Nitin Nabin, Chirag Paswan, Upendra Kushwaha, Jitan Ram Manjhi."
He further added, “If Nitish Kumar hadn’t been there, would Lalu Yadav have been the Chief Minister? Nitish Kumar also made Lalu Yadav the Chief Minister… If Lalu Yadav hadn’t perpetrated atrocities on my political career, I wouldn’t have become the Chief Minister of Bihar."
First BJP CM In Bihar
Samrat Choudhary is the first BJP leader to serve as Chief Minister of Bihar. He comes from a political background, with his father Shakuni Choudhary having served six terms as an MLA from Tarapur. His mother, Parvati Devi, also won the same seat in 1998.
Political Journey
Choudhary was appointed BJP’s state president in 2023 and later became Deputy Chief Minister in 2024. He took oath as Chief Minister after Nitish Kumar stepped down and moved to the Rajya Sabha as a Member of Parliament.
