The Congress on Saturday sought to dispel the impression that it was divided over the United Democratic Front (UDF)’s prospective Chief Minister candidate, even as it expressed confidence about returning to power in the 2026 Assembly elections. 

Ernakulam District Congress Committee (DCC) president Mohammed Shiyas’ comment that he wanted the UDF’s next Chief Minister to be from his home district raised concerns within the party, as the leadership attempts to avoid factional debates over the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leadership.
