TIMES NEWS NETWORKKochi:The first budget of the UDF government led by chief minister VD Satheesan has earmarked Rs 2074 cr for the development of the health sector. The government gives thrust on the medical insurance scheme to provide upto Rs 25 lakh treatment aid for each family.The Rs 25 lakh Ommen Chandy health insurance scheme was one of the prominent promises in the UDF manifesto. Presenting the budget, chief minister VD Satheesan also stated that the government will ensure high standards in the public health sector. The budget also announced a new medical college at Haripad in Alappuzha. Another important announcement in the budget is that a Rs 100 cr health and life science city. A cancer centre will be set up in Malappuram.
