Kerala Caregiver, Elderly Woman Found Dead At Israel Apartment After Suspected Attack

A man from Kerala, who worked as a caregiver in Israel, was found dead at the house where he was employed on Friday, according to several reports. Moreover, an 80-year-old woman was also found dead in the apartment at Mevasseret Zion.

The man was identified as Jinesh Sukumaran, 38, a native of Wayanad. He had flown to Israel on a caregiver visa only two months ago to look after the bedridden husband of the elderly woman, according to The Indian Express. He was found dead after an “attack by unidentified individuals."

Local panchayat member in Wayanad, Suja James, said they had received communication regarding Sukumaran’s death from Israel. “A few people from Wayanad working as caregivers have shared the tragic news," she said.

“We were told that the husband of the deceased woman also gave a statement to the local police pointing at an attack from outside. Reasons are not known to us. We don’t know further details at present, ‘’ she said.

According to Haaretz, the death of the caregiver and the elderly woman was suspected to be a murder-suicide, although authorities have have not yet released further information on the motive or identity of the attackers.

More than 30,000 Indians have been employed in Israel for decades, thousands as caregivers looking after elderly Israelis, while others work as diamond traders and IT professionals.
