A baby monkey, left unconscious after suffering an electric shock, was saved by a beat forest officer near the Golden Valley checkpost in Thiruvananthapuram.

The incident took place during a tussle among a group of monkeys when the infant accidentally touched a live wire and collapsed. The shock left the monkey trembling and unresponsive.

Arun PR, a beat forest officer stationed at the Golden Valley check post in Ponmudi who was on duty nearby, quickly came to the rescue. The officer carefully picked up the monkey and performed Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the spot.

After a few minutes of CPR, the baby monkey regained consciousness and was immediately reunited with its mother, who embraced it before leading it safely back into the forest.

A passerby from Kottayam recorded the rescue on their mobile phone and the video soon went viral on social media winning hearts across the country.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. In May last year, a police officer in Bulandshahr district, Uttar Pradesh, saved the life of an unconscious monkey that had collapsed from extreme heat.

On May 24, 2024, Officer Vikas Tomar spotted the motionless monkey and rushed to help, despite the risk from a group of visibly agitated monkeys nearby.

Without hesitation, he began administering CPR, performing chest compressions and gently stimulating the monkey’s body. After his tireless effort, the monkey slowly began to respond and eventually regained consciousness.
