The Kerala government has sanctioned ₹213.43 crore to local bodies towards the third instalment of the general purpose grant for the 2025-26 fiscal.
Grama panchayats would receive ₹150.23 crore, block panchayats ₹11.23 crore, district panchayats ₹7.89 crore, municipalities ₹25.83 crore, and Corporations ₹18.25 crore, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said.
In the first two months of the fiscal, the government had sanctioned ₹4,265 crore to the local bodies. This included ₹2,150 crore as the first instalment of the development fund, ₹78 crore as untied funds, ₹1,396 crore towards the first instalment of the maintenance fund, and three instalments of the general purpose fund.
Using the money, the local bodies would be able to undertake the maintenance of assets, including schools, hospitals and roads, in addition to major scheme works, Mr. Balagopal said.
