Kerala HC moved over ex-DGP’s ‘illegal’ vehicle number plate

The petition contends that the acts constitute the offences of personation and cheating punishable under Sections 204 and 319(2) of BNS

Kochi: A petition has been filed before high court alleging that former DGP Tomin J Thachankary illegally used the official ‘Silver Star’ DGP number plate on his private vehicle even after his retirement, thereby falsely projecting himself as a serving officer.Justice G Gireesh on Monday issued notice to Thachankary on the petition filed by C T Muneer of Kozhikode and posted the matter for July 31. The petition contends that the acts constitute the offences of personation and cheating punishable under Sections 204 and 319(2) of BNS.The petitioner further alleges that, owing to Thachankary’s influence, Mukkam police and Kozhikode district police chief failed to register an FIR despite formal complaints. He subsequently approached the jurisdictional magistrate with a private complaint, but the same was dismissed, following which he moved HC.
