A man in Kerala made a hoax bomb threat call in a bid to secure free meals in jail. The Kerala Police were left stunned after they found out the reason for making the hoax threat call.

The incident came to light after police received an emergency call to 112 warning that a bomb had been planted at the Kollam Collectorate complex and could explode within 50 minutes. Officers quickly traced the mobile number to Pramod Johny, 44, a resident of Mayyanad in Kollam district.

A police team reached his house after tracking the tower location and found Pramod waiting outside. Meanwhile, a bomb squad conducted a thorough inspection of the Collectorate premises, but no explosives were found.

During questioning, Pramod reportedly admitted that the threat was fake. According to police, he later revealed that he had no intention of carrying out any attack but wanted to be arrested and sent to jail so he could receive free meals three times a day.

Investigators said Pramod disliked working and had previously spent 15 days in jail in connection with another case. During that time, he developed a liking for prison food and believed getting remanded again would allow him to live comfortably without employment. To avoid physical harm, he allegedly chose to issue a bomb threat rather than engage in violent crime.

After verifying his claims and conducting an inquiry, police registered a case against him. However, instead of being remanded to judicial custody, Pramod was released on station bail.
