The ghat regions along the eastern side of Kerala will likely receive some heavy spells for the next couple of days due to the strengthening of the cross-equatorial wind flow. An orange alert has been issued for Wayanad, Malappuram, and Idukki on Wednesday (June 25, 2025), warning of very heavy rains, and a yellow alert for the remaining districts, except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha, where isolated heavy rain is likely.

Meanwhile, the hill stations close to the high-range areas in north Kerala witnessed some heavy spells, with parts of Meppadi panchayat in Wayanad receiving up to 100 mm of rain, triggering panic of landslips in interior areas of the forest as the increased water flow has turned the rivers in the region muddy.

However, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has clarified that the water level in the Punnapuzha river at Vellarimala has increased following the heavy rains that occurred the previous day. It was also reported that a small landslip occurred in the area where the landslide occurred last year, where entry into the no-go zone has been prohibited. Steps have been taken to evacuate the workers in the area to a safer place, said KSDMA.

“We have also had no confirmation of new landslides inside the forest, uphill Punchirimattam, Wayanad. The loose debris from the previous events is coming down in the rainfall. It will continue for some time, as the eroded material needs to completely wash off. The river and its immediate buffer of no-go zone are well marked. The public is requested not to go inside the no-go zone. The no-go zone was also marked considering the possibility of eroded materials coming down,” said KSDMA.
