In the wake of the fireworks tragedy at Mundathikode in Thrissur that killed at least 15, authorities have decided to conduct this year’s Thrissur Pooram without fireworks, while significantly scaling down Kudamattam, one of its most iconic elements.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at the Thrissur Collectorate on Thursday (April 23, 2026), attended by Ministers, Union Minister Suresh Gopi, MPs, elected representatives and Devaswom officials.
