Senior officials of Kerala and Tamil Nadu police forces held formal discussions a few days ago on a wide range of issues including cross-border crimes.
The inter-State police officer-level border meeting in Parassala, led by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Thiruvananthapuram Range, S. Ajeetha Begum, focused on smuggling of essential commodities and narcotics trafficking.
The key topics of the agenda also included enhancing information exchange on known offenders, coordinated efforts to curb drug and alcohol smuggling, measures to prevent illegal dumping of waste and smuggling of consumer goods, strengthening coastal vigilance and security, joint border patrolling and community policing strategies, according to a press note.
The meeting also discussed arrangements for the upcoming Navrathri processions that are expected to draw large crowds from both States.
District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram Rural) Sudarsan K.S., Kanniyakumari District Superintendent of Police R. Stalin, Neyyattinkara Dy.SP. Chandradas, Marthandam Dy.SP. Nallasivam, Thiruvananthapuram Rural Special Branch Dy.SP. Jayakumar, Crime Records Bureau Dy.SP. Robert Johny M., and station house officers from Vellarada, Coastal, Pozhiyoor, Balaramapuram, Palode and Vithura in Thiruvananthapuram; and Arumana, Kollemcode, Nithiravilai and Pazhugal in Kanniyakumari also participated in the meeting.
