Kerala teacher booked for allegedly beating Class 2 student over slow copying

The police have registered a case against a teacher of a Pattanur UP school in Mattanur in Kannur, Kerala, for allegedly assaulting a Class two student. The case was registered following a complaint by the child’s mother. The incident allegedly occurred on June 16, when the student was beaten for taking too long to copy what had been written on the blackboard.

According to the FIR, the teacher, identified as Vipin, assaulted the child during class. Family members later noticed injury marks on the student’s body, prompting them to approach the police.

The District Child Protection Officer’s office gave the intimation based on which the Mattanur police registered a case under Section 115(2) of BNS and has launched an investigation.

The Education department has also initiated an inquiry. Mattannur Assistant Education Officer Sreeja visited the child’s residence, recorded the parents’ statement and submitted a report to the department.

According to the family’s complaint, the teacher allegedly struck the child four times on the back in a fit of anger after the student failed to copy the lessons quickly. The child returned home in tears and later became too frightened to attend school.

Rib abrasion

While the child complained of persistent back pain, doctors advised an X-ray examination. The medical examination reportedly revealed an abrasion to a rib. Following the findings, the doctor informed the Mattannur police, who subsequently recorded the mother’s statement.

The child’s mother has demanded strict action against the teacher.
