Kerala will submit a list of four locations to the Centre for establishing an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the State, Health Minister K. Muraleedharan said on Monday.

Mr. Muraleedharan informed the State Assembly that the government will write to the Centre on Tuesday in this regard. “We will suggest four locations. We will not insist on any one location. They can carry out an inspection and take a decision. The government will provide the necessary land,” he said, terming it unfortunate that Kerala has not been picked for an AIIMS so far.

To improve conditions in government hospitals, government medical colleges have been directed to ensure that patients are not made to lie on the floor due to a lack of space.

Over the next week, the Health department will finalise measures, including the use of vacant wards at the government hospital at Pulayanarkotta to accommodate patients of the Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram,” Mr. Muraleedharan said.
